Founded in 1982 as Yancey County Hospice by a dedicated all-volunteer staff, our organization received Medicare certification in 1984. Over the years, our commitment to providing exceptional care has led to significant growth. In 2000, we established a beautiful administrative office, and in 2016, we expanded our services to include palliative care. To better reflect our progressive and geographically expansive organization, we renamed ourselves Compassionate Care Western North Carolina in 2019. Despite the name change, we remain the same local, nonprofit group of professionals and neighbors dedicated to serving the residents of Western North Carolina. Our promise is encapsulated in our motto: “Wonderful care when you need it most.”
Communities We Serve

Our Services
For individuals suffering from serious illnesses with no cure, hospice care offers critical medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support. Our interdisciplinary team of professionals and trained volunteers prioritize patient and family wishes, ensuring compassionate, patient-centered care.
Palliative care, a specialized medical service, provides relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illnesses. It focuses on improving patients’ and their families’ overall quality of life. Unlike hospice care, palliative care can begin at the time of diagnosis and continue alongside aggressive treatments.
Our Commitment to Excellence
While all Medicare-certified hospices are required to provide certain core services, how they are delivered varies greatly. At Compassionate Care Western North Carolina, we set a higher standard of care, evidenced by our receipt of National Hospice Honors for seven consecutive years.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide compassionate care and affirm life through hospice, palliative, and other supportive care services to the patients, families, and communities we serve. We strive to deliver inclusive care through innovative, multidisciplinary approaches and diverse community partnerships. Embracing our history of high-quality hospice care, we are committed to meeting the expanding healthcare needs of our communities.
